Organisations
Many organisations and associations have an interest and developed material on information literacy.
The Community Services Group of the Chartered Insitute of Library and Information Professionals, has a sub group called the Information Literacy Group. The Information Literacy Group aims to provide a forum across the UK for all sectors of the profession, which encourages debate and allows the exchange of knowledge in all aspects of information literacy.
The Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) has a Working Group on Information Literacy, whose remit is to take a lead role in the development of theory and practice in relation to information literacy (IL) and its role in the process of learning in further and higher education within the UK.
NHS Education for Scotland have developed an information literacy definition and framework that is intended for use in the healthcare sector.

The Higher Education Academy Information and Computing Sciences (HEA ICS) subject centre is keen to support both academics and practitioners in developing students IT and information literacy skills. The HEA ICS runs a couple of workshops a year on information literacy and will fiund projects through their Development fund.
Centre for Inquiry-based learning in the Arts and Social Sciences ( CILASS) aims to provide a step-change in the nature and quality of student learning, by embedding discipline-sensitive inquiry-based learning at the heart of this experience. The explicit combination of collaborative inquiry, information literacy development and networked learning gives CILASS its truly distinctive flavour.Information Literacy Community of Practice at Staffordshire University (ILCoPSU). Staffordshire University have set up a Communuity of Practice which aims to share good practice and discuss new ideas in IL teaching and learning within the university sector.
LearnHigher: Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning - Information Literacy section aims to create generic, re-useable learning objects of an interactive nature for both staff and students.The Scottish Information Literacy Project is developing a National Information Literacy Framework Scotland with partners using SCQF (Scottish Credit Qualification Framework) aims, structure and key features and existing frameworks and models. The aim is to develop a framework which all sectors of education can recognise and develop or which can be applied to the world of work by equipping learners with skills needed for the 21st century.
Yorkshire Universities Information Skills Group aims to encourage collaboration and co-operation between the region's higher education institutions in the area of information skills teaching and related materials, and to provide support for practitioners by encouraging networking and the sharing of good practice.
The Joint Information Services Committee (JISC) have funded information literacy projects, including developing online learning material and assessing staff information literacy skills. Details of past projects are available from their web site.
The American Library Association (ALA) supports the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the American Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) in the development of information literacy materials.
Australian and New Zealand libraries have created the Australian and New Zealand Institute for Information Literacy (ANZIIL). ANZIIL supports organisations, institutions and individuals in the promotion of information literacy and, in particular, the embedding of information literacy within the total educational process. The Institute identifies, facilitates, fosters and supports best practice in information literacy through: Professional Development; Promotion, Marketing and Advocacy; Research.

CILA, Chinese Information Literacy Association.
The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) have developed a Information Literacy Section the primary purpose of the Information Literacy Section is to foster international cooperation in the development of information skills education in all types of libraries. They have also created InfoLit Global a database to record information literacy materials from different parts of the world, on behalf of UNESCO.
Unesco have produced an easy-to-read publication on what information literacy means. It is designed for busy public policy-makers, business executives, civil society administrators and practicing professionals and could therefore be used in advocacy work. It is called "Understanding information literacy: a primer" and is available for downloading in English or French from their website.
The Information Literacy Meeting of Experts, organized by the US National Commission on Library and Information Science and the National Forum on Information Literacy, with the support of UNESCO, held a meeting in Prague, the Czech Republic, in 2003 and they proposed basic information literacy principles.
The High-Level Colloquium on Information Literacy and Lifelong Learning held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on 6-9 November 2005 developed the Alexandria Proclamation on information literacy and lifelong learning. It declares that “Information Literacy and lifelong learning are the beacons of the Information Society, illuminating the courses to development, prosperity and freedom."
