The Librarian, the Library
& Becoming Media Literate
Date: 24th April 2008
Venue: The Cornerhouse, Manchester
This session will introduce the key concepts that underpin notions of 'media literacy', defined as becoming a 'critical reader' of media texts of all kinds. It will enable participants to explore some of the kinds of classroom and research work undertaken in film and media studies as well as in media education across the curriculum (in the 14-19 sector mainly). Participants will be asked to consider the library itself as a form of media production and to apply the key concepts to their own practice, including considering the changing use of libraries in the world of Web 2.0 and 'we media'.
Cost: £75 per delegate (Student rate: £40)
